Monopile foundations have been used for the wind turbine generators, whilst their associated offshore substation is attached to the seabed using suction buckets. Monopiles are long steel tubes driven deep into the seabed by a hydraulic piling hammer.
UK company Atkins Limited was awarded the contract to provide all the monopile foundation engineering work. The installation was undertaken by Seaway Heavy Lifting using the vessel ‘Oleg Strashnov’, which was also used for the successful installation of foundations at the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm.
